In 2009, Michael wrote a book dedicated to his son Kaleb. The book touches upon 5 points of behavior: wisdom regarding knowledge and integrity; temperance of passion and possessions; industry of work; love of wife, family, and society; and harmony in the blending of past, future, and self. The book is titled "A Father's Hand: Lessons for Life from Father to Son."

Building a More Responsible Guam

A history of family in public service

Michael's parents, Mike Borja San Nicolas and Evangeline Quitugua, were long-time educators at the GDOE. Michael's grandparents were former Speaker of the Guam Legislature Franklin J. Arceo Quitugua and Julia Siguenza Quitugua; as well as former Guam Congress Representative Enrique Santos San Nicolas and Francesca Borja San Nicolas. Michael's wife, Kathryn, serves as an assistant principal at Astumbo Middle School.

A career in finance and wealth management

Before serving as a Senator in the current Guam Legislature, Michael was best known for his role as the Assistant Vice President and Wealth Management Advisor for Bank of Guam's BG Wealth Management Services team. Michael in the past also served as an educator at Simon Sanchez High School; a manager at Mandara Spa as well as Guam Home Center; and as the Chief of Staff to former Senator Carmen Fernandez.
